The Department of the Treasury of the United States (EU) asked Panama to expel from the Merchant Navy the ships that belong to the Islamic Republic of Iran or to Iranian companies.

The order seeks to comply with the sanctions applied on November 5, 2018 by the Office of Foreign Assets Control of the Department of the Treasury of the United States of America (OFAC) to 700 people, entities, aircraft and ships of Iran for being linked to terrorism .

In the Panamanian registry there are 60 vessels from Iran, mostly ships that are engaged in transporting fuel. To comply with this measure, representatives of the Treasury Department met yesterday with the Panamanian authorities and lawyers’ associations.
